Canonical has released the beta version of Ubuntu 26.10 (codenamed "Xenial Xerus 2"), featuring GNOME 48 desktop environment and numerous performance improvements.

New Features

  • GNOME 48 with improved multitasking and performance
  • Wayland as default display server with better NVIDIA support
  • Updated software stack including GCC 14, Python 3.13, and Rust 1.75
  • Improved snap package performance

How to Test

Users can download the beta from the official Ubuntu website. Testing and bug reports are welcome before the final release scheduled for July.
